"But again..." -Dave

So I was bored at colloquium the other day and I decided it would be interesting to count how many times dave said "again" during the meeting.

So I counted and recorded it on paper.

From 5:05 to 5:50, aka 45 minutes...

77 times.

77.

that's almost 2 agains per minute.

lol

Ninja Battle, the movie!

Ok everyone!

here it is! My final project!

I'm really happy with how it came out.

I wasn't able to do the wall running scene, but everything else came out pretty well.

My friends bailed on me at the last second, and just when I thought I'd have to use legos, my sister and her friend stepped up to help me. I'm really grateful for that. Thanks guys!

I also made the DVDS already, complete with a CD cover.

Ok, without further delay.....

It's not the best quality here; I'm looking for a way to post a higher quality one either here or on facebook. we'll see what happens.

Let me know what you think everyone, I put my heart and soul into this!

movie in progress

So here we are, saturday night, and I have good news and bad news...

bad news is my friends couldn't make it, and I was stuck waiting till today to shoot and edit.

good news is my sister and her friend volunteered to help and I got the majority of the work done.

bad news is im still pressed for time, and I doubt that the wall running scene will get into the movie.

good news is im still using live actors, and it's coming along quite well.

bad news is I go back to school tomorrow afternoon.

good news is I'm going to finish tomorrow morning.

and the final bit of news is this:

I've uploaded the movie in progress. I dunno what the quality will be like, but tell me what you think in general.

I was thinking of keeping my video a secret until the very end, but well, I figure not many people will be looking at my blog anyway, and those who do deserve some sort of reward for being nice to me.

keep in mind, it's very rough, there are several scenes missing, and the music will vary towards the end, but the general order and concept are intact.

lastly....the song continues past when the movie is done....when the screen goes black, it's over, there's nothing else.

happy viewing!

3 pictures

Ok here they are...

I admit, they are pretty rough, and obviously rushed...but that's what happens when things don't go your way the first time...

but whatever....It's the movie that will be my pride....3 frames is not enough to work with.

Be prepared for something cool when the movie is done.

P.S. A great purchase

Oh by the way...

I forgot to mention....I bought the best thing ever
at Cameras Etc. It it's sure to come in handy for this project, especially since I need to be in the scene and taking pictures at the same time.

here's a hint.

$14.99

well worth every cent.

stunt doubles

Ok, so I tried to get some work done on my movie today, but some people who had agreed to help me bailed, so we were left short handed.

plus, we got a late start, and it quickly got dark on us. damn daylight savings and such.
so we gave up for the night

a problem we had was that the concept of the wall run, although interesting, was near impossible with only three people. I pondered how to fix this problem, as I really wanted to keep this scene in my animation.

then it hit me.

Stunt doubles.
although I would have to forfeit the ability to say "yes, that is me running on the wall" I knew that it was for the good of the production, so I got to work on a dummy.

Here you see the result, christened "Popeye" due to his ginormous forearms.

this bad boy is made entirely of clothes. a LOT of clothes.

but he weighs less than a person, so he is a success.

Up close, it's pretty obvious that he's a dummy, so we're going to use him as little as possible...I'd like it if we only needed Popeye for the wall running scene. Everything else should be live actors.

But hey, all good action movies these days have stunt doubles.

AIM icons

I can  make custom icons, which include AIM icons.

like this one.

anyone want one?

they can be customized any way you want.

This is animated too, I hope it shows up here.

let me know! :)

STORYBOARD!

Here's the storyboard for my awesome project! tell me what you think!

some of my work

Hey everyone

I'd like to put up some of the work I've done with photoshop in my spare time recently.

I am part of a forum, and to anyone who's been on a forum before, many people have "signatures" that they can have at the bottom of their posts.

anyway, I make those. tell me what you think!

look familiar?

hey everyone,

Just wanted to put up a photo which helped me with my recent charcoal drawing project. It's a cool photo in and of itself, don't you think?

It's certainly better looking than my charcoal drawing. ;)

my awesome idea

well, I don't have pictures yet like i'm supposed to, but that's mainly because for these pictures I will need several people...both actors and...lets say...special effects people.

Not everyone will be seen in the final product...

is that a good hint?

photoshop....that should be a huge hint.

The majority of the picture will be unchanged...it'd be too easy to make stop animation if I just cut and pasted different things into a photo...no, this will be different.

it's going to be cool if it all works out, trust me.

it's most likely going to involve ninjas.

anything with ninjas is cool.

I'm hoping I can be a character in it, but I might need to stay behind the camera, unfortunately.

we'll see. whatever the case...should my idea be accepted, it's going to be really cool.

time consuming, but really cool.

and I like to work on things that are really cool. ;)

rhetorical lightbulb over the head!

Yes! I have a cool idea for my stop animation project!

it's going to be fun!

I think my story will be based on a ninja or ninjas, and there will certainly be fighting.

as for what will make this special...I don't want to tell anyone just yet.

rest assured, the pictures taken will be real....

but...to add some cool effects...

I may use photoshop... a tripod...several people...

you'll have to wait and see!

Design Alphabet project

Well I had been looking forward to the Alphabet project ever since I saw the examples wway back when we were still visiting UD.

And I did have a lot of fun with this one.

I was having trouble picking a certain letter. so I printed out a bunch, and then eventually selected my E to be my best.

Design has been tough, and the critiques have been unforgiving; my goal in that class was to have at least one of my works pointed out as very good. To have something...anything that I did complimented by a teacher...that was my goal.

AND IT HAPPENED!

Drew loved the E!

It's a nice feeling, let me tell you!

anyway, here's my E, and some other ones that I liked.

Project 4

Hey everyone,

here's my submission for project 4. It came out pretty well, I think, but now that I think about it I like the idea of removing the pictures and just having the chain. of course, if I did that, I might have to redo the chain to arrange it better.

I might try an easy fix of just removing the pics, but for now, here's what I submitted.

PROJECT 3 FINAL, FINAL!!

yup.

this is the real finished product.

I made some change to angles, and added blurs to tools. I also completed the rip in the paper, and the torn part was a bit distracting. you'll see what I mean. ;)

tell me what you think!

Monday, October 13, 2008

wow...

i just realized...the project isn't due until the 21st...

jeez...

this is the second time that happened.

well, hopefully people like it, otherwise it may get another dose of revisions.

Project 3 Final

Ok, so here is my final project 3 project. Normally I wouldn't post it before it is due but I'm really happy with the way it came out.

There are a couple things going on here. The general theme is pretty much "What is real?". We have a bunch of versions of Old College visible here, with different mediums. Old decrepit is torn away to reveal a much nicer version. An even sharper version exists on the computer screen, but also present is obvious editing as well as the computer's true nature, binary. Finally, additions by a pencil eraser and a paint brush are present. I think this came out pretty well.

Hopefully I have enough in my image this time!!!

attempt 2

so yeah I made another attempt, this one I like better, just in terms of visual appeal.

the concept of the last one was good, but lacked in layout and such.

based on critique, my images just aren't complex enough.

I'm going to put the two ideas together, I think.

And add a third idea.

We'll see what happens.

attempt 1

here's that file.

project 3 idea, crash and burn

haha well, it looks like i'm not going to be done this project early...

I mean I agree with John, the background isn't great and the image doesn't exactly strike you, but it would've been nice to be done right away.

I think i need to look at this project more in terms of a poster with a message rather than a photo. anyway, I'll be reworking this idea. ugh...and me hating drawing, it looks like I need to do another one.

I might try a screen other than the laptop, and definitely a different location.

I really need to focus on composition as well. I'm good with photoshop, and once I know what I want to do I'll be fine. It's just figuring that out that's the problem.

well anyway, this was my first attempt at finishing this project. lol now that I look at it, I'm glad this wasn't my final. It's a cool effect, but not really what I am looking for in this assignment.

umm..the computer lab won't let me upload pictures, so i'll put it up when I get home.

part of my project idea

check out this really cool trick you can do with your camera and a laptop! (oh, and photoshop helps too!)

I'm using this concept as part of my project. I think the project is done, but i'll have to see. my project is basically this photo, only the screen is a drawing of the same background. And, in the screen, windows are open which contain the clear photo image. it's pretty cool, if I do say so myself. But here's the bare bones  version, with no analog additions. Let me know what you think!

Artist Search

So with several minutes before it was due I found an artist who seems to combine analog and digital art styles. This stuff is pretty cool! I just wonder what I'm going to be doing with it. Here's a link!

home for a weekend

well this past weekend I went home for the first time since being a college kid. It was nice to be able to rest for awhile. I know some people have been going home a lot; almost every weekend. I wouldn't want to do that because I don't think that's the way to adjust to college life. SUre I miss my family, but this is how I'm going to be living!

Anyway, here's a photo from when I was at home. It's in the car, taken with a slow shutter speed. I think the mostly clear mirror with the very blurred background is very cool.

Project 2

Well today project 2 was due, and although sakai gave me trouble, I managed to get everything in. Bad news first: I didn't do some of the parts the right way. Good news: we get until tuesday to reshoot things. I'm looking forward to that oppurtunity. not only will I reshoot what I did wrong, I want to improve what I already have. Plus I want to write down some notes so I can sound somewhat intelligent when I present my work again. Here's one of my favorite shots from the project 2 shoot. It doesn't really fit into any of the categories, but I still really like it. Maybe I'll send it over to UD's publicity department or something.

I like this image because of the perspective and vanishing point in the center, along with the repeating lights on either side. The prolonged exposure gave the lights a twinkling effect, and the shadows cast  by the UD gates also add an interesting visual.

one project down, but they just keep coming

So yeah the portrait assignment is done, and now we get to play around with the manual camera settings. I'm familiar with some of them, but I can certainly use improvement.

Either way, here's a good time to put up some pictures that I have taken in the past. I'll try to find some that are related to the topic at hand.

Self Portrait

We had our critiques of our self-portraits today.

Mine were first, which made me nervous.

People seemed to like them, though as the critique went on, I was quickly outdone.

I admit, I could've done better, and probably should've varied my shooting location a bit.

Anyway, here's one of my pictures that got a lot of positive feedback.

Picture

Still getting the hang of blogging. Personally, I don't much like the idea but since it's required for class, I'll go with it. Lets see...well I should post a photo. Actually I should've posted a photo awhile ago by now. So here's one I thought was cool. I took it while I was working on my self portrait project, but it doesn't contain me anywhere.

This picture is of a lamp I have in my dorm. Part of my desk is also visible.

The idea of a lamp producing light is contrasted with the photo,
as although the lamps are lit, there is hardly any light in the room.

Hope you guys think it's cool.

I'll be posting some of my older pics too. I'll let you know what's recent and what's not.

Friday, September 12, 2008

Oh hi!

Well, this is my first post.

This blog was created for my class, and will generally contain my photography work, though on occasion you may see other things. I'll be posting my current work as well as some of my older shots, just to see what people think. This is my strong area, as opposed to drawing, where I am weak. So I need to do my best here!
